I started feeding my church after the Sunday morning service about 7 years back. There was an older couple and a few others who were doing most of the work. I used to chat with them as I would go back and make me tea before service or during the service. Some Sundays there were not enough drinks so I started to bring in sodas and drinks. Then 2 folks who did this burnt out and left the church. Then the older couple who did this got various illnesses and disabling ailments and were not able to continue doing things like they used to. So I started to bring in food as we had potlucks. And some Sundays when there was nothing, I would jump in the car and go to the store so there could be something--- at least a snack and drinks, even if there was not a full meal. This mattered because the after service meal means many things--- a place to gather and fellowship; a meal to carry home for the disabled, shut-ins, food insecure, in between jobbers, and shaky income church members. Sometimes we get a few disabled or homeless coming in from the street. And for some it is part of their weekly food strategy as they try to stretch a dollar on a limited come. So I knew that something needed to be there. And I reasoned God has generally been good to me and done miracles for me and my family, so for me it was a way to GIVE BACK and now I approach it more as a ministry. ---- ELK
